From April to October each year communities across the province open their doors to some of the most intriguing and charming sites, some of which have never been open to the public. Admission is FREE.
Once again York Region's communities will be participating with the following Doors Open events:
June 5 - Whitchurch-Stouffville
- Whitchurch-Stouffville will be showcasing 12 of our local "treasures" on Saturday, June 5th ~ Tour The Doctor's House and the Sangster Residence; visit Second Street Studio Stained Glass ; see the former post office at the Silver Jubilee Club; try your hand at Lawn Bowling; ride the miniature trains with the Richmond Hill Live Steamers. Other participating sites include: Lionel's Farm, Charlinda Belgian Chocolates, Springvale Baptist Church, Richardson Masonic Lodge, Bruce's Mill, and an Historical Walking Tour. There's so much to see and do and admission is FREE!
June 12 - Richmond Hill
August 21 - Aurora
- Visit some of the Aurora's most outstanding heritage projects and sites. Included among them is the Church Street School Cultural Centre, a municipally-sponsored restoration project of one of the most architecturally-significant public school buildings in Ontario; the Hillary House, a National Historic site; the former Methodist Parsonage - Lester B. Pearson's boyhood home; the Charles Henry Sheppard House & Conservation Area; Rising Sun Masonic Lodge and many more.
September 11 - Georgina
- FREE - Celebrate the
community's heritage by exploring various historic properties across Georgina. At least 12 heritage sites will be open to
explore, with additional programming such as walking tours and interpretive
exhibits available at designated locations. 2010 sites include the Briars,
St. George's Anglican Church, Georgina Pioneer
Village & Archives, Eildon Hall, the Georgina Military Museum, Manor House, Jackson's Point Pier, among other notable locations.
October 2 & 3 - Vaughan
- Enjoy an art show at the historic J.E.H. MacDonald House and the Armstrong House.
